"Twighlight's Dragon" (from Dragon Poems) by Nixie626

Broken warriors, swords, and helms

lay deep within my earthly realms.

Lest they glint through days of death

and call to those who curse my breath.

In shady pasts my treasures glow,

remembrance of some greater foe.

Yet as I rest, they blink and stare,

taunting me to stay aware!

Shifting shapes, they set to flight

along the caverns of my sight.

Ghostly wraiths approach my hoard,

searching for their vanquished lord.

Every day brings those I slew,

and every night reaps death anew.

For wars above create the past,

haunting me with dangers vast.

Hours the same perform to Earth.

Some to death and some to birth,

so live as one day and night.

Unight beneath the last twilight!

Mountains of snow may gleam in spring

and landscapes flush as rivers sing,

yet there walks a timid sadness

drawn to me by human madness.

As time grows old upon this peak,

the outside world grows dark and bleak.

And that exploration becomes unknown,

whispering in these winds alone.

This cold dusk shall be my dawn,

and at long last I'll meet the faun

who sang to me throughout the age

of dragons golden, knight and mage.

Behind this lifetime's ancient gates,

they listen as eternity waits.
