9 Platforms that Connect Readers and Writers

Published on 15 March 2025 at 06:48

It is easy to feel isolated when your passion is reading or writing because they can often be treated as solitary activities. But with the prevalence of the internet, many online platforms are bringing people from the reading and writing communities together. In this post, I've assembled a list of some of these spaces that might interest you. This post is number four of a four part series.

Some things to think about when deciding which platform to join include:

  • your preferred genre/s (romance, horror, etc.)
  • your preferred formats (books, serials, poems, manga, etc.)
  • monetization (if you are a writer)
  • pricing tiers (for example: some platforms charge writers who wish to monetize their work)
  • available platforms (desktop, Apple, Android, etc.)

**Please note that I have not tested all of these platforms, and the way they opperate may change at any time. Writers are encouraged to do their own research when deciding which platform is best for them as the contracts that each platform puts forth differ.

It is free to use for both readers and writers (typical of fanfiction platforms as you can't earn money from intellectual property you don't own). Readers can comment at the end of a chapter to cheer on the writer.
  9. Poetizer: Specifically made to feature original poetry, it has an in-built editor to help you wordsmith your work. You can access a 14-day free trial to test out the platform, but it is ultimately a subscription-based platform that charges $1.99/month to all users. In addition to its social platform, Poetizer has a separate publishing program for poets seeking help with self-publishing. This service is restricted to US-based users.
