It is easy to feel isolated when your passion is reading or writing because they can often be treated as solitary activities. But with the prevalence of the internet, many online platforms are bringing people from the reading and writing communities together. In this post, I've assembled a list of some of these spaces that might interest you. This is post number two in a four-part series.
Some things to think about when deciding which platform to join include:
- your preferred genre/s (romance, horror, etc.)
- your preferred formats (books, serials, poems, manga, etc.)
- monetization (if you are a writer)
- pricing tiers (for example: some platforms charge writers who wish to monetize their work)
- available platforms (desktop, Apple, Android, etc.)
**Please note that I have not tested all of these platforms, and the way they opperate may change at any time. Writers are encouraged to do their own research when deciding which platform is best for them as the contracts that each platform puts forth differ.

10 Platforms that Bring Readers and Writers Together
- Movellas: As I write this, Movellas is under construction. Last I heard, it was available to any genre, had no monetization features, and was free, but only had a desktop version. These things may change after reconstruction.
- Scary Chat Stories: Designed strictly for short form horror, Scary Chat Stories has no monetization features to my knowledge. It offers both free and premium versions and is only available on mobile devices.
- NovelCat: Free and available on any device, this platform supprots writer monetization and is open to any genre. It has a more complicated tiered system of contracts for writers who wish to monetize their work and involves an application process. Writing contests are also popular on this platform.
- FanFiction: If you're someone who enjoys reading fanfiction, you are probably already aware of this platform. In addition to stories based on popular films, television shows, and books, you can also find community forums and beta readers.
- AnyStories: Readers read for free on Anystories. Writers are rewarded through bonuses and monthly incentives. All genres are welcome, though romance is always popular. The active user base makes it a good platform for seeking feedback. It is available for desktop and mobile devices.
- WebNovel: Novels, comics, and fanfic are all popular on WebNovel. While you can read for free on this platform, you may need to purchase a membership subscription in order to access later chapters of your favorite word. Monetization options are available for writers.
- YepNovel: This platform offers exclusive and non-exclusive contracts to its writers and is open to all genres. YepNovel is designed for mobile devices and is available through Apple or Google Play app stores.
- Tapas: This platform Is best known for its web comics and other illustrated work, but it also hosts short stories and novels across many genres (though romance is popular). Much of the content is free to read, but authors are allowed to put some chapters behind a pay wall. It also offers revenue-sharing for writers based on ads.
- FictionMe: Visit FictionMe if you're looking for romance - especially romantasy. The intersection of romance and werewolves is especially popular here. Royalties and bonuses are available to writers as well as exclusive and nonexclusive contracts. You can access FictionMe on desktop and mobile devices.
- GoodNovel: Another platform where romance and romantasy lead the pack, GoodNovel allows readers to read for free while offering monetization options to writers. Contracts are available to writers who have posted at least 5,000 words. Contests are also hosted by the platform with a focus on various subgenres of romance.
