Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya has consistently ended up on the American Library Association's top 100 most frequently banned books lists ever since it was published in 1972. The Bloomfield School Board in Anaya's home state of New Mexico even went as far as to burn copies of this book. But does this book deserve the treatment it has received?
In this video series, I introduce the book, a little of the historical and cultural context, the complaints that have led to its banning, and my own thoughts on the book as a reader. This book was also our Book Club choice for September.
