Resource Update: 10 Audiobook Libraries Just for You

Published on 31 March 2023 at 12:23

The resource for this week focuses on audiobooks. I've heard people speak negatively of audiobooks because they are not "real books."  I disagree. While I personally prefer to consume stories in print form, many people process auditory information more effectively than printed information. Audiobooks are a way to make literature more easily accessible to folks who have print-related disabilities such as dyslexia or vision impairment. They also allow you to enjoy books while doing other things, like walking to work or cooking dinner. The latest resource article discusses where you can find audiobooks for free online. The Trans Rights Readathon (March 20-27) has come to a close. This event was organized by Sim Kern, an author of speculative fiction and LGBTQ member and advocate from the the Gulf Coast. You can learn more about them on their website: https://www.simkern.com/. There are many great books by trans authors that you may enjoy reading. Check out my blog post, 10 Books by Transgender/Nonbinary Authors to Celebrate Trans Rights or follow #TransRightsReadathon on social media for suggestions.

As you may be aware, anti-trans legislation continues to grow. Just this year, 44 states have already pursued anti-trans legislation. These bills and laws span all forms of societal participation from education, healthcare, and use of public facilities to athletics, ID cards, performance, and clothing and gender presentation. You can learn about each state's laws and how to take action by visiting Track Trans Legislation.

Wishing everyone a Happy Trans Day of Visibility (March 31)!
